Task management in Task22

This page documents how Task22 handles day-to-day task management: task dates, task activity statuses, and single-task assignments with team collaboration.

At a glance

  • Create start and end dates, which can be adjusted manually or automatically

Every task carries a start date and an end date, editable by hand or rescheduled automatically.

  • Edit task activity statuses such as open, closed, pending, or on hold

Edit task activity statuses such as open, closed, pending, or on hold, at any point in the work.

  • Focus on single assignments and collaboration, not entire projects

One owner per task, with the team working from the same task, not only from the project.

Criterion 1

Create start and end dates, which can be adjusted manually or automatically

Every task in Task22 is created with a start date and an end date. Both can be set when the task is created, edited at any time afterwards, and adjusted automatically when the work around them moves.

  • A task's start date and end date are part of the task itself, not a separate planning artifact, so they are visible wherever the task appears.
  • Dates can be adjusted manually at any time — typed directly on the task or dragged on the Timeline and Gantt views.
  • Dates can be adjusted automatically: when a task's duration changes or a dependency moves, the dates of the tasks around it are rescheduled for you.
  • The same dates show in the Kanban, Timeline, and Gantt views, so one task's schedule and the team's schedule always agree.

Criterion 2

Edit task activity statuses such as open, closed, pending, or on hold

Every task carries an activity status that can be edited at any point in its life. Task22 uses four: open, pending, on hold, and closed.

  • Open — work that has not started or is in progress.
  • Pending — work waiting on a person, an approval, or another task.
  • On hold — work deliberately paused, with the reason kept alongside it.
  • Closed — work that is finished and signed off.
  • The status is edited straight on the task or by moving it between columns on the board, and the change is immediately visible to the whole team.
  • Status drives the board columns, filters, and reporting, so the current state of each task is clear without anyone having to ask.

Criterion 3

Focus on single assignments and collaboration, not entire projects

Task22 tracks work at the level of the individual task. Each task has one owner, and the rest of the team collaborates on that same task rather than viewing everything only at project level.

  • Assign each task to a single owner, so accountability for a piece of work is never shared or ambiguous.
  • The team collaborates on that same task: owner, dates, and activity status are held in one shared record everyone works from.
  • Work can be tracked task by task without building a full project around every assignment.
  • Projects are still available when a workstream needs one — but assignment, dates, and status always live on the individual task.
